ZVA, the German opticians’ association, conducted another survey of its members from May 28 to June 3. The first survey, at the beginning of April, asked more than 1,400 members how they were handling the coronavirus crisis. More than 56 percent of participating opticians have since returned to their normal opening hours. Almost 30 percent still have limited opening hours and nine percent only take appointments. The reason for the limited opening hours, according to ZVA’s members, was part-time work. However, 43 percent of the opticians that introduced part-time work said that they will cancel it in June. Only 4.8 percent of opticians stated that they were having problems with the supply of eyewear products. More than 60 percent still do not offer the fitting of contact lenses.
