A decline in foreign visitors, which organizers declined to spell out, caused the March 14-17 International Vision Expo East fair in New York to register a 7 percent decline in total attendance to 14,886 persons, as compared to the same session one year ago. However, many important exhibitors reported strong domestic orders at the show, which hosted a total of 575 companies, the same as last year. The number of people attending the numerous conferences organized during the fair rose by 7 percent to 2,410. Still, some exhibitors are now questioning the value of holding the summer session of Vision Expo in Las Vegas next September. Its cancellation last year following the Sept. 11 events apparently had no dramatic negative effects.
