A form of development pact has been drawn up among the local institutions in the eyewear manufacturing district in Northeastern Italy to take advantage of new legislation that allows the country's regions to help foster joint projects aimed at reinforcing existing industrial clusters, financing up to 40 percent of their cost. The signatories of the pact expect to get €2.7 million from the Veneto region to support 8 projects worth a total of €6.8 million in such areas as technological innovation, competitive development, the integration among different companies and promotional activities in favor of the district as a whole and of its quality label, Glad. Among the signatories are local government authorities from Belluno, Treviso and the surrounding mountain communities, the local chamber of commerce, the Glad consortium, various trade associations and other bodies involved in the eyewear industry such as Certottica.
