Abióptica, the Brazilian eyewear industry association, is launching a new national trade show next year that will also be open to non-members. Called Expo Optica Brasil and aimed at a national market estimated at $10 billion a year, the new fair will be held next April 3-6 at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo. About 25 exhibitors have already confirmed their participation, and negotiations are being held with others in Brazil and abroad. Held for the last 16 years in the spring, the former Expo Abióptica ended up with only 69 exhibitors at its last edition. Founded in 1997, Abióptica has more than 100 members.
