Adlens is one of the winners of the 2013 Nikkei Smart Design Award, gaining second place for the design of its Emergensee collection. The Nikkei Smart Design Award honors companies producing inventive designs that connect daily living with innovation. The award is presented by Nikkei Design, a Japanese monthly magazine for designers, corporate managers and business people engaged in product development. The Emergensee glasses are a solution for lost or broken eyeglasses and contact lenses, with instantly adjustable, variable-focus glasses. Wearers can adjust the focus by turning a dial on the frame, allowing the two sections of each lens to glide across each other until the optimum focus is achieved. The glasses correct 90 percent of spherical refractive errors and can be continuously adjusted for near, immediate or distance focus requirements. This year, the Emergensee line was also recognized at the 2013 Edison Awards, where it received a bronze award in the Lifestyle & Social Impact category for product innovation. Headquartered in Oxford, U.K., where it also has its research and development facility, Adlens has additional offices in Japan, Hong Kong and the U.S.
