Adlens is unveiling its Hemisphere variable focus eyewear at Vision Expo West, being held Sept. 6-8 in Las Vegas. Adlens is calling the new line a new category of vision correction, saying that they can be dispensed immediately and avoid laboratory expenses. Hemisphere uses fluid injection lens technology with external barrel reservoirs filled with clear silicon that adjust the refractive power of the lens when turned. Once the prescription in each eye is set, the eye care professional removes the reservoirs and seals off the lens – this is not readjustable. The technology should be available in Europe in early 2013.
