Alain Afflelou reports a net profit of €13.9 million for the six months ended last Oct. 31, up by 6.9 percent on a comparable basis. The French franchisor's revenues grew by 14.3 percent to €79.4 million, generating a gross profit of €40.4 million. Excluding company-owned stores, which had sales of €15.0 million, the gross margin on franchising increased to 48.8 percent from 47.6 percent in the year-earlier period. It was sustained in part by the sale of exclusive products which now represent one-half of the franchisees' purchases. Operating profit (EBIT) increased by 6.6 percent to €19.7 million.
