Parent company Novartis reported a 3 percent increase for Alcon global sales last year to $10.83 billion. The increase was driven by the launch of key product including AirOptix Colors. Growth was also partly boosted by new contact lens products, which offset a drop in solutions sales. For the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, Alcon posted sales of $2.7 billion against $2.66 billion a year earlier. Operating income for the full year 2014 rose to $1.6 billion against $1.23 billion a year ago.

By region, sales in 2014 were driven by strong performance in emerging markets, especially in Asia, where the sales increase for the full year was of 13 percent. Contact lens sales grew by 6 percent. However, sales of contact lens care solutions declined by 7 percent.

Meanwhile, sales for the Novartis group increased by 1 percent during the full year period, to reach $58.0 billion.
