As largely expected, Thélios, the joint venture between the French luxury goods group LVMH and Marcolin, will take over the manufacturing of Dior eyewear from Safilo. Christian Dior is owned by LVMH, and Safilo's license agreement expires on Dec. 31, 2020. The first collection of Dior eyewear produced by Thélios will be unveiled in January 2021. It will be available in Dior boutiques and in stores selected by Thélios. The company has a production site in Longarone, Italy, that can churn out 1.5 million pairs a year. A second adjacent site is being built that will bolster annual production to more than 4.5 million pairs.
