ASDA's long-term strategy is to have an optical counter in each of its 360 stores in the UK. So far, the British chain of hypermarkets, which belongs to Wal-Mart, has 84 optical counters, most of which are in its stores in the Midlands and the south coast of England along with a few in Scotland and Wales. Plans are underway to open seven stores, mostly across northern and southern England, this year. ASDA, which offers competitively priced eyewear, is mostly competing against Specsavers and Boots Opticians.
