Bushnell Outdoor Products has bought the brand and certain assets of Simmons Outdoor Corporation. The American group, which also owns Bollé, Serengeti and a growing stable of properties in the outdoor sector, says its optical business will be enhanced by the rifle scopes and binoculars that Simmons is known for. The takeover is the seventh one since 2001 for Bushnell, which has been focusing on the outdoor sector with such properties as Tasco and Michael's of Oregon. With the majority of its shares acquired a few months ago by another equity fund, MidOcean Partners, Bushnell increased its sales by more than 8 percent last year. It should generate revenues of more than $400 million in 2008.
