Carl Zeiss is planning to set up a network of 30-35 optical shops in Hungary that would sell exclusively its own lenses and managed by some of its 150 best clients in the country, who already benefit from quantity discounts. Meanwhile, Raphael Scherer has been appointed as marketing and sales manager for Western Europe within Zeiss' optical division, based at its headquarters in Germany, taking the place of Wolf-Dieter Müller who died in a tragic accident in the USA last September. Scherer, 36, was previously handled European sales for Sirona Dental Systems. To facilitate his integration, Josef Frész, a sales and marketing executive who has worked for Zeiss for a long time and who tool over the position on an interim basis last Oct. 1, will stay on until the end of March.
