Fotex-Ofotert, a large Hungarian chain of over 100 optical shops trading under the Fotex, Ofotert and Vision Express banners, is entering the Czech and Polish and markets through the acquisition of 13 and 9 stores in these two countries, respectively, previously owned by Carrefour. Another 12 optical stores operated by the big mass merchant in Italy have been sold to Salmoiraghi and Viganò, the country's largest optical retailer.
The Hungarian company has not yet decided how to name the acquired stores. Its expansion plans concern the whole Central European region. One of the candidates to the acquisition of the Polish stores, which has yet to be endorsed by the anti-trust authorities, was Michel Pujerol, master franchisee and former owner of Lynx Optique, which has already 8 Lynx stores in the country. For Salmoiraghi, the latest acquisition raises to 240 the number of its stores.
