Charmant has announced a global licensing agreement for the production and distribution of prescription frames and sunglasses under the Tru Trussardi and Trussardi 1911 brand names. The Italian fashion house plans to show Charmant's first styles during the Italian men's fashion week in June. The Japanese company will present a full collection to the trade next September, mainly made in Japan, for delivery from January 2011.
Trussardi has been developing the eyewear line internally to ensure continuity after its previous eyewear licensee, Visibilia SpA, went into bankruptcy proceedings last year.
The license, whose duration could not be determined, reinforces Charmant's position in the higher segment of the market. The company would not provide any turnover figures but said its sales grew by 6 percent in 2009. In the previous year, Charmant sold more than 8.8 million pairs of frames and sunglasses, up by 7 percent as compared to 2007.
