Chris Beer, the chief executive of Luxottica's Asia-Pacific, Greater China and South Africa region, thinks the company could end up having up to 600 stores in Australia. In an interview with Insight, an Australian publication, he noted that Specsavers, which is expanding rapidly in Australia and New Zealand, doesn't really pose a big threat to Luxottica because they cover different ends of the market. He noted that Sunglass Hut shop-in-shops located in Myer department stores have had a 40 percent sales increase this season, and another 50 Bright Eyes stores, which are currently undergoing a rebranding, are planned. Right now, there are 320 OPSM stores, and Luxottica is eyeing another 80 locations. The 120 Budget Eyewear shops could be expanded to 225-250.
