Fielmann, the German optical retailer, and the Fielmann family, which owns it, have been active in taking part in the combat against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The family donated 1 million surgical masks to each of the states of Brandenburg, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. The 3 million masks were bought through the company’s supply channels.
Brandenburg hosts the company’s production and logistics center, located in Rathenow an der Havel, while the company’s headquarters are in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein is the home of the Fielmann family.
Marc Fielmann, the company’s chief executive, notes that the firm can obtain large quantities of protective equipment at short notice. The initiative supports the states during the health crisis without jeopardizing the company’s financial resources, he adds.
The Fielmann company started producing safety goggles, using the DIN EN 166 standard, with the outbreak of the pandemic and donated 20,000 pairs to hospitals and medical facilities. The goggles were sent free of charge from Rathenow an der Havel to medical facilities that registered on the company’s website. On its German website, the company is also offering to the general public to buy the goggles at “guaranteed low Fielmann prices.”
The company increased the production of goggles from mid-April. From the end of April, it also started manufacturing goggles with individual prescriptions.
