Warby Parker, the U.S. omnichannel optical retailer, is extending its partnership with the New England College of Optometry (NECO), to increase Black representation in the sector. The company already financed the scholarship of two Black scholars for NECO’s four-year optometry program and will expand its contribution by covering the tuition fees of two additional students, representing a total donation of $700,000. NECO said that the announcement of the first partnership led to a 85 percent increase in application from Black people. Only 2.7 percent of optometrists in the U.S. identify themselves as Black, according to NECO.
