Eric Léonard, recently appointed as general manager of Essilor France, has become the new chairman of GIFO, the French ophthalmic industry association. He worked for Peugeot-Citroën and then for the Boston Consulting Group before joining Essilor in 2002 as purchasing manager. At GIFO, he takes the place of another more seasoned Essilor executive, Bertrand De Limé, who has been instrumental in federating the whole industry in France. For his part, De Limé is going to spend more of his time with EUROM, the European optical industry federation, which he led between 2001 and 2004. In a ceremony in Paris earlier this month, De Limé was awarded the French Legion of Honor. He is retiring from Essilor after 12 years with the company in various positions, mostly recently as manager of its operations in Europe and then in Latin America.
