Eschenbach Optik has obtained a public retraction by Channel 5 of the Italian television network of a statement indicating that Italy's Optigen was the only company to have developed a viable technology for the manufacture of flexible memory-metal titanium frames (see the previous issue of EWI). The retraction was made by Giulio Velati, chairman of Federottica, the Italian opticians' federation, on April 10 on the same popular TV program, «Striscia la Notizia,» where he had made the original statement. He clarified this time that other non-Italian technologies are equally safe, provided they are regularly certified.
