Essilor and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) have just signed a three-year partnership designed to raise global awareness of the dangers of driving with uncorrected poor vision. A recent study in India among 400 drivers involved in accidents showed that more than half of them presented at least one visual defect. Under this three-year agreement, which has been endorsed by the World Council of Optometry and the Vision Impact Institute, the French optical group will back up FIA's communication by providing messages, data and analysis. It will also develop more products to address the drivers' specific visual needs. The FIA is a global association for motor sports, comprising 245 motor sport clubs in 144 countries whose members represent a total of 80 million drivers.
