Essilor continues to make investments in the sunglass lens sector. The giant French lens manufacturer has now acquired BNL Eurolens, another French company that makes premium tinted and polarized non-prescription sunglass lenses in polycarbonate at its own factory in Bellegarde, close to the Italian border. With a staff of 60 people, BNL had sales of €11 million in 2002, of which two-thirds were generated outside France, and its management will be retained. BNL will continue to operate as an independent unit. Prior to the acquisition, Essilor produced mostly corrective sunglass lenses. BNL's technology will also benefit this existing business of Essilor.
