Exports of Italian eyewear to the USA didn't suffer the collapse that the industry feared after Sept. 11. The major downturn suffered in the first few weeks after the attacks was actually followed by a relatively swift recovery. For the 11-month period through November, Italian exports of frames registered a slight decline of 11.3 percent, but they were offset by a 48.1 percent increase in sunglass exports. Overall, Italian eyewear exports to the USA rose by 14.4 percent to e489.6 million, representing 35.8 percent of total exports.
