Félix Baumgartner, the famous Austrain skydiver, participated for the first time in the Tour Auto Optic 2000, a car race from Paris to Biarritz with teams of all nationalities and 225 legendary cars. The race, which reached its 24th edition, took place on April 20-25. Baumgartner is a brand ambassador for watch maker Zenith and is best known for setting three world records, jumping from a capsule suspended from a balloon on the edge of space, in 2012. He reached an estimated speed of 1,357.64 km/h, or Mach 1.25, on Oct. 14, 2012, becoming the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power on his descent. At the latest Tour Auto Optic 2000, Baumgartner drove a 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SL.The race was won by Jean Francois Nicoules, and Baumgartner finished in the 97th place.
