Fielmann raised its sales by about 6 percent on a comparable store basis in the second quarter, the same rate achieved in the first one, but profits increased as a slower rate because of a higher proportion of sunglasses sold to consumers. As of June 30, the number of stores had gone up to 656 from 649 one year earlier. With more doors being added to its network in Germany and elsewhere, the leading German optical retail chain reached total external sales of about €614 million for the first six months of this year, up by 7.0 percent from the same period a year ago. It sold 3.3 million pairs of glasses, up from 3.1 million pairs. Consolidated revenues grew to €522 million from €487.4 million, an increase of 7.1 percent. The bottom line showed a pre-tax profit of around €86 million, up by 9.4 percent from €78.8 million.
