Five small and medium-sized producers from Italy's Belluno district left on Feb. 8 for a trade mission to the area in order to meet buyers and other important players in the optical markets of Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The first stop was in São Paulo in Brazil, a big country with a fast-growing economy where a compulsory eye test for schoolchildren and workers will be introduced in 2013. The second stop was scheduled to be in Panama, where representatives from the other Latin American countries were asked to converge to meet the Italian group. The companies taking part in the Italian mission were G.B. di Auronzo, Luxol, Martini Occhiali, Thema Optical and Trevi Coliseum, all based in the Cadore district.
