For its full year ended Jan. 2, 2005, the Acuvue contact lens division of Johnson & Johnson raised its sales by 11 percent to $1.7 billion, holding the #1 spot in the global contact lens market. The growth was driven by its core product range of spherical, specialty and cosmetic contact lenses. The company recently applied to have its Vision Care Institute logo registered as a trademark for spectacles, contact lenses and ophthalmic services. Essentially, the trademark would cover nearly every aspect of the eyewear trade. The logo features an iris and a pupil.
