For World Sight Day a few weeks ago, Michelin and Essilor signed a two-year memorandum of understanding to promote safety on the road. The plan is to raise awareness of the importance of good vision and proper tires for driving. By the two companies' estimate, 20 percent of the world's drivers have poor, uncorrected vision, for lack of awareness or vision care; 50 percent of the world's cars operate with underinflated tires; and 10 percent of the world's cars have worn-out tires subject to punctures or blow-outs. Michelin and Essilor will be offering eye screenings and tire check-ups for employees, customers and the public. They also plan to make proper equipment more accessible in their respective industries.
