Gerber Coburn, the lens processing machinery unit of Gerber Scientific, was a bright spot for its parent company in the first quarter ended July 31, with sales jumping by 348 percent to $695,000 even as Gerber Scientific had a revenue decline. The overall company saw turnover go down by 24.6 percent to $119.7 million. Its core business fell by 27 percent, which included $11.6 million or 7.3 percent, from currency effects. Acquisitions helped to the tune of $3.8 million, or 2.4 percent. Net income was down by 28.6 percent to $500,000, which included the loss from discontinued operations of $800,000. Last month the company sold FOBA Technology + Service GmbH, in a transaction that was expected to generate $8-8.5 million in net cash.
