Germany's eyewear industry association, Spectaris, forecasts a 7 percent sales increase to nearly €4 billion for the sector in 2007, with increases of 4 percent in the country and 10 percent abroad. Definitive figures for 2006 indicate total growth of 12.7 percent to €3.68 billion, including gains of 8 percent at home and 17.5 percent in foreign markets. The number of employees working for the 150 companies in the sector increased by 4 percent to 21,290. On the other hand, ZVA, the German optical retailers' association, says the number of optical retailers increased by 63 to 8,654. They managed 10,101 stores, 14 percent of which are part of the country's 10 largest eyewear retail chains.
