Google has a challenger in Will Powell, a 2010 Oxford graduate who has come up with glasses that provide real-time translations of ongoing conversations. Powell's product uses Vuzix video eyewear, Raspberry Pis, an iPhone and an iPad. With the translation help of Bing by Microsoft, a translated “caption” appears across the bottom of the glasses within seconds of the spoken sentence. He was inspired for his project by Google's announcement in the spring of its work on Google Glass, its augmented-reality glasses. Powell recounts his work on the translating glasses at his website, willpowell.co.uk.
