Hansgeorg Bode, who has been running the Hamburg-based Optiker Bode chain for three decades, died unexpectedly at the age of 69. Under his management, the company has become the fourth-largest optical retailer in Germany, with about 75 stores. He bought the former family business back from a U.S. investor in 1983, when it was in a difficult financial situation. Two children, Carsten and Sandra, have been involved in the top management since the company celebrated its 75th birthday in 2013.
