In 2014, Optic 2000 was sentenced by a court in Paris, France to pay €30 million in damages to Optical Center for unfair competition. The fine was related to a lawsuit filed in 2008, in which Optical Center claimed that around 20 stores of the Gadol Optic 2000 group had allegedly mishandled the coverage of certain clients' optical expenses by their health plans. The Paris Court of Appeal has now canceled that fine and rejected in full Optical Center's claims and arguments in that lawsuit, stating that Gadol's banner had operated with transparency and integrity, and that the group had actually widely informed its associate members in order to prevent any illegal practice of overbilling. Optical Center may still lodge an appeal in cassation against this ruling.
