In 2015, the Iberian eyewear market (frames, sunglasses, lenses and contact lenses) is expected to grow by 1.5 percent, after a 7-year downturn, and to reach a total value of €800 million. According to a recent study by research company DBK, which released the figure, €640 million of this will be generated in Spain, up from €630 million in 2014, and €160 million in Portugal, up from €156 million in 2014. Around 50 companies operate in Spain and 30 in Portugal, employing an overall 3,650 people. The market is highly concentrated, with the leading five companies accounting for half of the market in Spain, in 2013, and 57 percent in Portugal.
