In a way similar to their British colleagues, the major French retail chains, including the integrated retailers and the retail cooperatives, have formed a new association, called Syndicat des Opticiens sous Enseigne (SynOpE), to represent their specific demands. The new splinter group was formed because the members of the French opticians' association (UDO) could not find a consensus on new regulations proposed by the French government to simplify the procedures to reimburse customers' purchases at their shops. The new association, which is broadly in favor of the regulations, is led by Marie-Claire Prud'homme of GrandOptical. Christian Roméas of La Guilde des Lunetiers is vice chairman and Raouf Sabet d'Acre of Lissac is treasurer.
