Independent eye care professionals in the U.S. ended 2010 on an optimistic note, according to the Jobson Optical Research's Optical Business Barometer results from November and December. The monthly survey of eye care professionals ranks attitudes toward the market from 1 to 5, with 1 being very negative and 5 being very positive. The figures reached a peak of 3.7 in August, but then declined to 3.3 in September and 3.2 in October. In November the score rose back to 3.3, and in December rebounded to 3.6. All four regions as classified by the U.S. Census saw increases in the business rating, with the best scores on the West Coast. The three business categories, eyeglasses and exams, all rose over their October and November figures. Overall for all of 2010, Jobson found that women were more optimistic than men.
