Jacques Ledieu, a former president of Sidol, France's association of distributors and importers in the optics and optical industry, has died at the age of 82 after a long illness. His wife, Micheline, died on the previous day. Although trained as an optician, Ledieu first went into business as a salesman of household appliances. In 1976, he became sales director at the French subsidiary of Menrad. It was soon thereafter that he joined Sidol, where he ascended from treasurer to vice president and then president, serving from 1995 to 1999. He is remembered for his tact, kindness and skillful defusing of conflicts.
