Janne Kyttanen has designed a line of glasses as well as a platform for consumers with which they can fully customize the glasses at home before they are 3D printed. Kyttanen is a Finnish sculptor and designer, and is best known for his 3D art work. In 2000, he founded Freedom of Creation, a company specializing in 3D printing and design. The firm was later acquired by 3D Systems, a maker of 3D printers based in South Carolina. Kyttanen's work has been on display at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Design Miami, and at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The three base styles of frames, which can be customized, include wayfarer, rectangular, and round silhouettes. Customers can add personalized colors and text to the frames, whether for sunglasses or prescription lenses. The new 3D-printed customizable eyewear collection is available through GlassesUSA.com, a direct-to-consumer optics retailer.
