Jeffrey and Patricia Cole have donated $31 million to the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. The donation will help the institute expand its surgical and clinical capabilities and enhance its research mission. The Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute employs more than 100 professional staff physicians and researchers who diagnose, treat, and investigate the entire spectrum of conditions of the eye. The institute, which includes basic and clinical research teams who study genetic and non-genetic based eye diseases, has been ranked in the Top 10 in the U.S. News & World Report for the past five years. In 1999, Jeffrey Cole and his company - Cole National Corporation - contributed the lead gift that established the Cole Eye Institute. Cole led the company as chairman and chief executive from 1983 until 2003, when the company entered into the discussions that led to its sale to Luxottica the following year. This new gift to the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute will allow for further growth.
