Jil Sander’s eyewear line of sunwear and ophthalmic frames for both men and women is to be designed, manufactured and distributed by Marchon under a new licensing agreement. Raf Simons, creative director of Jil Sander, will collaborate in their design. Former eyewear collections bearing the German fashion designer’s name were distributed by Alain Mikli and more recently by Eyewear International Distribution, a joint venture between Prada and De Rigo. Prada owned a 75 percent stake in Jil Sander between 1999 and 2006. Marchon recently picked up two other important fashion eyewear licenses with Karl Lagerfeld and Pucci. The big American group will launch its first collection of Jil Sander sunglasses at the beginning of 2009 and the ophthalmic frames in April of that year.
