Johnson & Johnson Vision Care's voluntary recall of 1-Day Acuvue TruEye contact lenses, reported in August, has been extended. The company said that it continued the recall in late October, including almost 500,000 boxes of the lenses that had residual traces of a product in the manufacturing process that can cause redness and stinging in the wearer's eye. Almost three-fourths of the affected product is in Japan, with the rest in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Canada. Lenses in the U.S. were not affected as they are made with a different material. Only products from affected lot numbers are being recalled. J&J said that less than 1 percent of all contacts it produced worldwide were affected.
