Jürgen Dömel, longtime president of the workers' council of the Carl Zeiss group, left the group on Oct. 11. Most recently, he was vice president of the supervisory board of Carl Zeiss AG. At the end of September, he gave up his seat as president of the workers' council of the group to his successor Manfred Wicht. In the framework of the German reunification and the reconciliation of the Eastern and Western part of Carl Zeiss, Dömel was the first East German to be president of the workers' council. His appointment aimed to underline the successful reconciliation of the group. At 61 years old, he will be retiring.
