Luxottica has closed the US headquarters of IC Optics in New Jersey barely one month after its acquisition. It will use its own strong national sales organization to market its Versace line of frames and sunglasses in the world's largest market.
Furthermore, Luxottica has agreed to market Prada eyewear in the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico through its own Avant-Garde Optics subsidiary. The Italian press took the move as a further indication that Luxottica may take over De Rigo, which has a joint venture with Prada, Eyewear International Distribution (EID), for the development, manufacture and sale of Prada eyewear, but the rumor has again been formally denied.
Luxottica is already selling the Prada line in Japan. The USA remains a weak spot for De Rigo, which has already given to Seiko the rights to distribute its own Céline line of eyewear there, as we have previously reported.
