Marcolin has appointed Giovanni Zoppas as its new chief executive and general manager, effective on Feb. 1, 2012. He will replace Vito Varvaro, who has held the position on a temporary basis since the end of September after the resignation of Massimo Saracchi. Varvaro will retain his job as deputy chairman. Zoppas, 53, is currently managing director of a big Italian chain of variety stores, Coin, and his background is largely financial. He started his career at Andersen Consulting before moving to Benetton Group, the Italian apparel group where he was charge of finance and international operations. Between 2003 and 2006 he was general manager of an Italian sporting goods brand, Nordica, sold by Benetton to Tecnica Group. Zoppas finally moved to the Coin group as chief financial officer and chief operating officer, and recently became general manager of its Coin division.
