Menicon has bought W.I. System, operator of 68 retail stores and one franchise in the Tokyo area under the banners of Ace Contact and Ekicon. Menicon, based in Nagoya, is taking on W.I. System as a wholly owned subsidiary; terms of the deal were not released. The acquisition will boost its presence in the Tokyo area and reach customers who don't currently use Menicon products. Ace Contact and Ekicon, which sell mostly contact lenses as well as eyeglasses, hearing aids and pet nutritional supplements, will continue to sell Menicon products as well as those from other manufacturers. W.I. System had sales of $130 million in the fiscal year ended in May.
