Menicon will have exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and market certain disposal contact lenses of 1-800-Contacts and its ClearLab subsidiary in Japan. The deal, which will be worth a total of $18 million in licensing fees over a period of between 3 and 5 years, allows the US company to bypass a long process to get its products approved in the country, which represents an estimated one-fourth of the total world market for disposal contact lenses. 1-800 Contacts had a net income of $1.4 million during its 3rd quarter ended Oct. 2, with sales on 18 percent higher revenues of $56.9 million.
