Metal frames represented last year near 73 percent of all the eyewear frames sold in Germany last year, according to ZVA, the country's optical retailers' association. With 10.6 million glasses sold in 2007, German opticians registered a total turnover of €3.76 billion in 2007, up by 2.8 percent from the year before, as indicated in the previous issue of EWI. Operating a total of 10,016 stores, the number of retailers declined from 8,654 to 8,560, with the chains representing 40 percent of the total turnover in the country.
