The organizers of the Mido trade show in Milan announced a 7 percent increase in the number of visitors to a total of more than 52,000 for its latest edition, held in Milan on Feb. 27 to 29. As we previously pointed out, the figure is an estimate that includes invited guests and thousands of visitors whose badges are directly requested by the exhibitors.

The general atmosphere was very positive at the show, possibly due in part to the recent improvement in the European market (see the article on GfK's estimates in this issue). It was particularly vibrant in the new More! area of the designer section, where many young and innovative companies reported very good orders and contacts.

With 106 new entries, the total number of exhibitors was similar to last year's level of 1,202. Inspecs, which modeled its booth at the fair like an English pub, took first place in Mido's award for the best stand. The first prize in Mido's Bestore Award went to Steingasse 14 in Heidelberg, Germany. It was followed by L'Osservatorio in Milan and Black Optical in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mido is acquiring a stronger presence in social networks. According to the organizers, the exhibition-related contents and interaction on social platform has doubled since a year ago. The official hashtag of the show, #MIDO2016 was featured in more than 10,000 Instagram and Twitter postings. The number of Facebook fans on Mido's page has risen by more than 2,000.

The next Mido will take place on Feb. 25-27, 2017.
