Net sales went up but that didn't keep Orange 21, the maker of Spy Optic sunglasses and goggles, from reporting a loss for the first quarter of 2008 that ended on March 31. Net sales were up by 23.4 percent to $11.6 million. Sales in the USA made up 75 percent of this total. The net loss for the company was $0.9 million, which was an improvement over the loss of $1.7 million for the same period in 2007. The gross margin decreased to 46.6 percent from 52.1 percent from the previous year. The company blamed higher oil and gas prices as well as the weak dollar.
