Oakley is talking to strong retailer partners who may want to open O stores in major cities like London, Barcelona or Dubai. The first foreign licensed O stores was opened last Dec. 10 by Oakley's successful Chilean distributor in the Alto Las Condes shopping mall of Santiago do Chile. Aside from its numerous O stores in the USA, the company operates a company-owned O stores in an Australian surf resort. It opened recently on a licensing basis Oakley Vault factory outlets in Portsmouth and York, in the UK, followed last month by one in Calais, France. Separately, Oakley has cut a deal with Orvis, a major supplier of fishing tackle with a strong presence in the USA and the UK, for a co-branded line of 8 polarized eyewear models, which will be featured in its widely distributed mail order catalogs. Oakley has also announced the introduction of what it claims to be the world's first truly interchangeable prescription lenses, using new glazing and fitting technologies for its high-performance Half Jacket sunglass model.
