The opti show – which we have previously called Opti based on our style guidelines – will move in 2021, 2023 and 2025. As announced at a press conference in Munich, it will move to Stuttgart in those odd years, as the world's leading trade show for architecture and related materials and systems for the construction industry, BAU, would otherwise be held just before the opti show, covering the entire, recently enlarged fairgrounds of Messe München.

As exhibitors would only have limited time to set up their stands before the bigger show, GHM, the organizer of the opti show, has decided to move it to Stuttgart in the years when BAU will occupy the premises.

The organizers of the opti show had already decided to move it to earlier dates in January, and they did not want to alter the dates and duration of the show, so they started discussions with various trade show locations with the aim of finding a long-term and future-oriented solution for opti and its exhibitors.

Regarding the future venue of the German eyewear show after 2025, it is still uncertain whether opti will continue to alternate between Munich and Stuttgart. It will have the option to move to Stuttgart once and for all, after testing the waters there, or it may come to a new arrangement with Messe München.

According to GHM and Spectaris, the German optical industry association, exhibitors were pleased that a solution has been found with regard to the short time-frame in the odd years when the BAU trade show would take place just ahead of the opti show. However, some exhibitors indicated that they would have preferred a move to a venue in Northern Germany instead of remaining in the southern part of the country.

Messe Stuttgart is apparently offering good infrastructure, as it is well connected to various transportation systems. Visitors can even walk to the halls when they arrive at the airport of the city. In 2021, 2023 and 2025, opti will be held in the southern part of Messe Stuttgart's fairground, covering the halls C2, C4, C6, C8 and C10.

GHM, which has successfully managed the opti trade show since 2008, is headquartered in Munich, but it has been organizing trade shows in other cities for more than 70 years. It is familiar with conditions in Stuttgart.

As planned, opti will take place at earlier dates next year, running from Jan 10 to 12 at the Messe München fairgrounds, where it will also be held in 2022 and 2024. For the first time, visitors will be able to enter the halls via the Northwest and Northeast entrances next January.

Last January's event took place on Jan. 25-27. It expanded into a sixth hall at Messe München, filling all the halls on the C side of the Munich fairgrounds, which occupy a total area of 60,000 square meters. This allowed the organizers to bring in new exhibitors and to create more space for the Opti Forum and the Opti Campus. In 2020, the opti show will once again occupy six halls, from C1-C6.

This year, a total of 28,000 visitors per day passed through the turnstiles, more or less in line with the previous year. A total of 631 exhibitors from almost 40 countries presented their new products at the fair.

In 2021, BAU will take place in Munich from Jan. 11 through 16. This year, it ran from Jan. 14 to 19, hosting 2,250 exhibitors over an area of 200,000 square meters and welcoming 250,000 visitors, including 85,000 foreigners.
